Leah KraussMassage ~ Leah Krauss
Leah moved to New York City from Cleveland, Ohio in 2004 to study anthropology at Barnard College. As part of her studies she spent time in Oaxaca, Mexico where she researched barter economies and sharpened her Spanish speaking skills. While she enjoyed the intellectual rigor of Columbia University, Leah craved work that was more tactile and healing. This led her to pursue massage therapy training at the Swedish Institute. She graduated this past January and received her New York State License. Leah currently specializes in Swedish Massage and Shiatsu. Her training includes myofacial and neuromuscular release, manual lymph drainage and polarity therapy.

This April, she will be receiving certification in pre- and peri-natal massage. Leah relishes the opportunity to establish her practice with Yoga-People. Armed with both a high level of technical skill and an intuitive awareness of energetics, Leah does work tailored to the needs of each client. She looks forward to cultivating a collaborative relationship with Yoga-People's clientele and thanks everyone willing to open themselves up to the physical and mental benefits of safe and focused touch. In addition to massage, In addition to massage, Leah is an avid doodler, short story scribbler, and kitchen chemist.

Yuri Astakhov

Massage ~ Yuri Astakhov
Yuri was born and grew up in Moscow, Russia. He moved to New York eighteen years ago and it was love at first site. He considers himself a city boy having worked as a cabbie, acted in an Off-Broadway show, and run in the New York City Marathon as a volunteer with Achilles Track Club. Yuri also worked in a hospital with a Palliative Care Team as a massage therapist. A boxer in his youth, Yuri now spends his free time outdoors biking, rollerblading, swimming, and camping. He graduated from the Swedish Institute of Health in 2007 and has worked as a massage therapist all over the city ever since. Yuri’s combines Eastern and Western techniques in his massages for an experience that is truly his own signature style. Yuri is the proud parent of two children.

Massage ~ Leah Decesare
Leah was born and raised in New York. Since 1999 she has been a practitioner of various martial arts, which bred her curiousity about the human body, eventually leading her to the field of massage therapy. She is a graduate of the Swedish Institute, a member of the American Massage Therapy Association and a certified Sports Massage therapist.

Now an avid cyclist, Leah uses her intimate understanding of the active body to approach overuse conditions, prevent injury and maintain overall wellness. In addition to massage, Leah is a self defense instructor at the Center for Anti-Violence Education in Park Slope, plays guitar in a band and has been independently studying the benefits of herbal medicine and vegan nutrition.

Dara SendowskiMassage ~ Dara Sendowski
Dara was born and raised in New Jersey. She was introduced to yoga as a child when her mother would take her out of day camp to take classes with her and her siblings weekly. Before moving to New York in 2006 she received a B.A. in Psychology from Boston University. Since then, her love for yoga as well as a desire to deepen her practice led her to a Hot Vinyasa Yoga training and Certification with the Barkan Method in 2007. Dara is a recent graduate of the Swedish Institute and is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She believes everyone can benefit from massage, whether you have tension, need to de-stress or both, massage is extremely nurturing and intensely relaxing. In July she will complete her certification at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she hopes to use her knowledge to guide and support those on their path to wellness.

Types of Massage

Deep Tissue Massage ~
This massage digs into your deepest layers of muscle with deep finger pressure that releases your body's most tense areas.    Slower strokes and concentrated pressure on the muscle releases the toxins that can build up during the everyday grind.   This massage is both corrective & therapeutic and ideal for those with chronic pain and injuries.

Shiatsu Massage ~
Shiatsu massage is done fully clothed and takes place on a mat on the floor.  Pressure is applied to your body's meridians (lines of energy) to stimulate your flow of Qu and promote good overall health.   The intensity of the pressure applied to your muscles will vary depending on your body's specific needs.   Shiatsu massage will help alleviate pain while releasing you into a state of bliss and total relaxation.

Hot Stone Massage ~
Anyone who practices yoga knows what heat can do for your body's tension! The use of smooth heated stones on your body encourages muscles to release quickly for an experience that is deeply relaxing. The practice of using of hot stones in healing dates back to ancient times and is still an amazingly satisfying way to experience massage.

Prenatal Massage ~
If anyone deserves a massage, it's you!  Prenatal massage is a safe and effective way to decrease the tension that builds in the lower back and lower extremities of the body during pregnancy.  Let go of the stress in your body & mind with a massage designed specifically for the needs of the pregnant body.  Prenatal massage has been known to reduce swelling of the feet & ankles, reduce pelvic pain , improve sleep & digestion and leave soon-to-be-mommies in a state of true bliss.
