Spring Cleanse Yoga Workshop In Brooklyn Heights ~
Yoga People announced
today a special two day April Spring Cleanse workshop “Root to
Rise: The Power Of Organic Energy” to be held at their Brooklyn
Heights studio on April 26-27, 2008. Both Saturday and Sunday sessions
will be co-taught by the studio’s popular Anusara teachers Tara
Glazier and Jorja Rivero.
Spring is a season of change and renewal: the earth awakens and flowers
bloom into stunning beauty. A Spring Cleanse is an important part of
any yoga practice because as the seasons change it is important to let
go of the old to allow space for the new. Winter can hold condensed
energy in the body; as Sp ring begins to unfold it is important we reflect
that change in our bodies.
The “Root To Rise” detoxifying workshop is designed to embody
the expansive rhythm of the season so that the body and mind will be
charged, cleansed and rejuvenated.
Although “Root To Rise” isn't technically an Anusara workshop,
both Jorja and Tara are Anusara teachers and so the program is heavily
influenced by that method. In fact, during both sessions Jorja and Tara
will focus on particular principles that are specific to Anusara.
The Saturday April 26th session of “Root To Rise” will be
an invigorating class that includes standing poses, inversions and backbends
and will focus on the expansive qualities of the Spring season. This
first day will get students’ prana or life force flowing optimally
and the teachings will emphasize the focal points (or energy centers)
of each pose or asana. Focal points are like seeds packed with energy;
accessing these seeds will empower and liberate the students’
practice as they become more stable and grounded.
“Just as a seed grows and roots down into the earth, our poses
grow in the same way. Every pose is an expression of this inner and
outer growth--just like the literal growth occurring in Spring,”
observes Tara. “Students will be empowered with information on
how to literally grow their poses and in effect their consciousness
will expand as well.”
The Sunday April 27th session will, in contrast, offer a contemplative
and detoxifying practice that focuses on rooting or grounding. By wedding
hip openers, forward bends, twists, seated and restorative poses with
breathwork, this 2 hour workshop allows students to alternately experience
their bodies’ natural vitality and expansive freedom while rinsing
out their organs and replenishing them with oxygenated blood flow.
Appropriate for both beginning and advanced students, Root To Rise is
an excellent way to rejuvenate and cleanse.
“On a physical level we want students to experience the stability
that comes from the engagement of the proper muscles. Through this engagement
they’ll then learn how to root their poses, and in turn grow their
poses,” says Tara. “They will hopefully understand where
to draw their energy into and where to extend from. With this knowledge,
they’ll experience expansion on the inside and on the outside.
When they walk off the mat they’ll have a newfound grounding and
clarity. The energy in their bodies will be flowing and this optimal
flow will allow them to feel as though expansion is possible on every
level of their life.”
